“Who writes the summary statement following my application’s peer review?”

All reviewed applications receive an overall impact score and a summary statement. The summary statement provides a synopsis of the study section’s discussion, its recommended budget, criterion scores from assigned reviewers, as well as reviewer critiques that cover the strengths and weaknesses of your proposed project.

The study section’s scientific review officer prepares the summary statement. Typically, it becomes available in eRA Commons 30 to 45 business days after the corresponding peer review meeting. Although the program officer assigned to your application is not the author of your summary statement, they are still the best person with whom to discuss your probability of funding and potential next steps.
