No. Although NIH has previously considered the merits of creating a cap for total grant support, no such limit currently exists at NIAID nor is one imminent. For well-supported investigators who currently receive $2 million or more in total costs per year of active NIH funding, NIAID’s Advisory Council reviews pending applications as Grants Needing Special Consideration.

To be clear, we speak here of support for research project grants, not an individual’s salary. There is a Salary Cap, which is set at an annual rate of $212,100 for 100 percent effort.
