Last year, the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) released a Memorandum establishing new guidance for improving public access to data and scholarly publications resulting from federally supported research.
NIH drafted a Public Access Plan that would alter the NIH Public Access Policy to reflect new priorities identified in the OSTP memorandum.
Before implementing those changes, NIH invites community feedback through a Request for Information (RFI) on the NIH Plan to Enhance Public Access to the Results of NIH-Supported Research. The RFI focuses on scholarly publications, with prompts for feedback on the following topics:
- How to best ensure equity in publication opportunities for NIH-supported investigators.
- Steps for improving equity in access and accessibility of publications.
- Methods for monitoring evolving costs and impacts on affected communities.
- Early input on considerations to increase findability and transparency of research.
Submit your response through the RFI webpage by April 24, 2023. Take care not to include any proprietary, confidential, or sensitive information in your comments.
Note that, in addition to scholarly publications, the NIH Plan to Enhance Public Access to the Results of NIH-Supported Research also considers scientific data, mechanisms to increase findability and transparency of research, and possible next steps.
