Replication studies are an important part of the scientific process and critical in assessing the validity of novel research outcomes, particularly those that form the basis of evidence-based practices to improve public health. The NIH Common Fund developed the Replication to Enhance Research Impact Initiative in support of the wider NIH emphasis on Enhancing Reproducibility Through Rigor and Transparency. This Replication Initiative will support efforts to independently replicate significant lines of research and validate novel technologies across different scientific research areas in preclinical, translational, and technology development studies.
The Common Fund released a notice of special interest (NOSI) for administrative supplements to support necessary preparatory activities to enable replication of impactful NIH-funded biomedical studies by an independent contract research organization—a vital feature in the advancement of knowledge. This NOSI provides administrative supplements to support replication/validation of preclinical research studies; given its scope, the NOSI does not support human subjects studies.
