Gain valuable insight into the vast constellation of NIH-funded projects through NIH’s RePORT and RePORTER systems:

Your custom crafted queries can help you learn what active research represents the cutting edge of your field, find potential collaborators for future projects, identify research areas that are underrepresented or highly supported, and much more.

We invite you to explore the many powerful options in RePORT and RePORTER. As a starting point, check these ten features:

  1. Categorical Spending displays the annual support level for various Research, Condition, and Disease Categories (RCDC). The RCDC table includes historic data back to 2008, lists estimates for 2022 and 2023, and provides mortality and prevalence figures for 2019.
  2. Awards by Location and Organization shows you year-by-year NIH funding and award count by institution, state, and congressional district.
  3. Search Publications from NIH-funded projects using PubMed ID (PMID) or PubMed Central (PMCID) reference numbers.
  4. Matchmaker allows you to paste in text (e.g., a scientific abstract or other keyword-rich text) to find similar projects or NIH program officers.
  5. NIH Data Book reports on extramural grants and contracts, awardee organizations, trainees and fellows, and the national biomedical workforce.
  6. Search for Active NIAID Projects offers List, Charts, or Map options to visualize NIAID data. To help you identify the type and segment of listed projects, refer to Deciphering NIH Application/Grant Numbers.
  7. NIH Intramural Database indexes the scientific projects in NIH’s own laboratories and clinics. Find NIH researchers in your area of science and learn how Collaborations Between Extramural and NIAID Scientists work.
  8. Use the Sign In option on the upper right of RePORTER to gain access to MyRePORTER. The MyRePORTER Dashboard lists your saved queries and you can sign up for alerts about new search results.
  9. ExPORTER allows you to download the raw data behind RePORTER for in-depth analysis.
  10. RePORTER Application Programming Interface (API) lets advanced users write computational procedures to retrieve project and publication data for analysis and/or reuse in other applications.
