“I saw NIAID’s DEIA request for information, but I think I answered one of those already?”

You might be remembering a request for information (RFI) that NIH issued as part of the UNITE: Ending Structural Racism initiative. NIH UNITE’s four focus areas are:

  • Elevating Health Disparities and Minority Health Research Across Institutes and Centers
  • Promoting Equity in the NIH-Supported Biomedical Research Ecosystem
  • Promoting Equity in the Internal NIH Workforce
  • Improving the Accuracy and Transparency of Racial and Ethnic Equity Data

NIAID is pursuing related goals through its own Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) initiative and issued a new RFI last month.

Admittedly, the two RFIs take on similar themes, though NIAID’s RFI: Seeking Stakeholder Input on Enhancing Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility Across NIAID Extramural Activities specifically asks for outside recommendations on NIAID’s extramural funding practices and scientific research areas.

Helpfully, NIH UNITE has already posted the results of its earlier RFI. Review the public feedback sent in response at UNITE RFI Report. Those outcomes may spark ideas that you want to share with NIAID through our open call for responses.
