In an effort to enhance diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility (DEIA), NIAID welcomes your input by addressing questions such as the following:

  • How might NIAID better identify and characterize populations disproportionally impacted by infectious, immunologic, and allergic diseases?
  • How can the Institute best address any conscious and unconscious biases that may exist in the NIH peer review process?
  • What are the gaps and barriers to developing, diversifying, and sustaining a diverse extramural scientific workforce and building a scientific pipeline to support the NIAID mission?
  • How can the Institute attract, retain, and foster diversity among trainees?

Answer these and other questions through the Request for Information (RFI): Seeking Stakeholder Input on Enhancing Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility Across NIAID Extramural Activities. Note that NIAID extended the response date of March 31 to May 31, 2023.

Through the RFI, NIAID invites information and recommendations to enhance DEIA across the Institute’s funded activities. NIAID is interested in comments from stakeholders throughout the scientific research, advocacy, clinical practice, and non-scientific communities, including the general public. The Institute also seeks input from a wide range of NIAID constituencies, including across the career spectrum, and from individuals as well as professional societies.

From the RFI responses that are received, and in conjunction with NIH's efforts, the NIAID DEIA Council will develop actionable recommendations and implementation strategies to sustainably support DEIA across NIAID activities.
