Biography

Dr. Kwan received her Ph.D. in epidemiology from the University of California, Davis, with designated emphasis in vector-borne disease. As a student nestled between the medical and veterinary schools, she was well trained in zoonoses and the complex interfaces between people, animals, and their environment. She specializes in study designs for both complex clinical trials and observational studies to reduce bias and increase precision of primary and secondary endpoints. She has expertise in defining critical data elements to support efficient publication of final statistical analyses. She has performed extensive field work estimating incidence and assessing interventions for malaria, SARS-CoV-2, Zika, West Nile virus, as well as the immune impacts of co-infections on vaccine efficacy. Her current interests include the novel use of GPS data in clinical trials and spatial statistics in locations with limited telemetry.
