Biography
Jonas Schluter is currently Assistant Professor at the Institute for Systems Genetics at NYU Langone Health where his lab studies the central role of the microbiome in health and disease. Dr. Schluter completed his graduate training at the University of Oxford, working with Kevin Foster on applying social evolution theory to understanding host-microbiome interactions. As a JSPS fellow at Sokendai, Japan, he expanded his work on mathematical ecology in the labs of Hisashi Ohtsuki and Akira Sasaki, followed by post-doctoral research with Joao Xavier at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York, on the impact of the microbiome on cancer patients’ immune dynamics. Dr. Schluter’s team members integrate controlled in vitro and pre-clinical experiments with computational analysis of observational multi-‘omics time series data, focusing on patients undergoing immunotherapies. Guided by a vision to develop and leverage a deep theoretical understanding of ecosystems and evolutionary processes in the microbiome, the lab seeks to discover ecological interventions that can turn the microbiome into a central therapeutic target in modern medicine.
