NIAID’s Division of Intramural Research is home to about 130 principal investigators (PIs) who lead 1,200 colleagues in research labs focused on allergy, immunology, and infectious diseases research, and includes biosafety level- (BSL-) 2, BSL-3, and BSL-4 laboratory spaces. Recent Collaborations Between Extramural and NIAID Scientists have yielded scientific innovations and breakthroughs, but such arrangements can be challenging to establish because of rules governing use of resources, funds, and research products.
Through Notice of Special Interest (NOSI): Administrative Supplement to Support Research Opportunities at NIAID Intramural Facilities, NIAID invites applications from actively-funded grant recipients to travel to NIAID laboratories for a short duration to perform research in partnership with a host intramural research investigator. By collaborating with one of our intramural labs, you can explore areas of mutual research interest and gain access to equipment and data analysis not available elsewhere for your specific research project.
Note that eligibility is limited to grant recipients with NIAID-funded awards of the following activity codes: R15, R16, R03, or R21. The work you propose must be within the scope of your parent award. Awards already in a no-cost extension are ineligible for this opportunity.
To apply, you will need a letter of support from the PI of the intramural laboratory where you would conduct research. You may request up to $50,000 in direct costs, but note that these funds cannot be used to support any intramural research scientist or their lab.
Submit your application through the notice of funding opportunity Administrative Supplements to Existing NIH Grants and Cooperative Agreements (Parent Admin Supp, Clinical Trial Optional). Be sure to write “NOT-AI-23-074” in the Agency Routing Identifier field (box 4B) of the SF 424 R&R form.
The deadline to apply is February 2, 2024, at 5 p.m. local time of the applicant organization.
