Simplified Review Criteria Will Receive a Soft Launch
As you likely know already, NIH is Simplifying Review of Research Project Grant Applications for applications due on or after January 25, 2025. The longstanding five regulatory criteria (i.e., Significance, Investigators, Innovation, Approach, Environment) are being reorganized into three factors: Importance of the Research; Rigor and Feasibility; and Expertise and Resources.
NIAID is participating in a “soft launch” in which several notices of funding opportunities (NOFOs) will be issued this year featuring the Simplified Peer Review Framework. We will identify those NOFOs in this newsletter as they publish. Keep in mind, every NOFO lists its review criteria in Section V. Additional Review Information; refer to NIH Research Project Grant (Parent R01, Clinical Trial Not Allowed) for an example.
Provide Input on HIV Research Priorities Before March 28, 2024
NIH’s Office of AIDS Research (OAR) is collecting input to inform development of the FY 2026‒2030 NIH Strategic Plan for HIV and HIV-Related Research. Refer to the February 12, 2024 Guide notice for details. We will discuss OAR’s request for information in greater depth in the next issue of Funding News, but you may find it beneficial to consider what feedback OAR seeks as early as possible.
