Biography
Zhe Hu is a visiting fellow in the Laboratory of Viral Diseases, Cellular Biology Section, under the mentorship of Dr. Jonathan Yewdell, where she is working on coronavirus rescue. Zhe Hu graduated in 2020 with a Ph.D. in veterinary medicine from the China Agricultural University School of Veterinary Medicine, where she worked with the animal influenza research team in the Key Laboratory of Animal Epidemiology of the Ministry of Agriculture, which is committed to the research of important zoonotic infectious diseases, especially in animal influenza epidemiology, virus genome evolution law, pathogenic transmission mechanism, and vaccine research and development. In Dr. Yewdell‘s group, she has helped develop a replication-competent hOC43 expressing the SARS-CoV-2 spike gene in place of the native spike gene, providing a virologically relevant chimeric CoV for use as a target virus in immunological assays and a surrogate SARS-CoV-2 virus that can be safely handled at BSL-2.
