Change in Prior Approval Requirements for SBIR/STTR Recipients to Add a Subaward

Effective immediately, small business innovation research and small business technology transfer (SBIR/STTR) grant recipients must request prior approval when adding a new domestic subaward to a project, given the arrangement was not originally part of the peer reviewed and approved application.

Read the July 3, 2024 Guide notice for further details, including instructions for submitting an updated SBIR/STTR Foreign Disclosure Form. Refer also to our Prior Approvals for Post Award Grant Actions SOP.

Rarely do SBIR/STTR recipients conduct research using a foreign subaward—per Section 18.5.2.1 Place of Performance of the NIH Grants Policy Statement, an investigator must provide compelling scientific justification in the application that it is not possible to perform the project activity in the United States and for the need to use a foreign site.

Funding for Meetings to Support Data Harmonization of Autoimmune Disease Research

The Office of Autoimmune Disease Research (OADR) within the Office of Research on Women’s Health invites “permission-to-submit” requests for Support for Conferences and Scientific Meetings (R13) grant applications that seek funding to support scientific conferences and workshops with the goal of developing and refining common data elements for autoimmune disease research.

If that is your niche, check out Notice of Special Interest: R13 Support for Conferences and Scientific Meetings to Support Consensus Building for Autoimmune Disease Research Related Common Data Elements. OADR urges potential applicants to initiate contact with the Office at least 6 weeks prior to the anticipated receipt date—the next of which is August 12, 2024.
