Time is running out for current Institutional Research Training Grant (T32) recipients to submit revision applications in response to our Notice of Special Interest (NOSI): Competitive Revision Supplements to Existing T32 Programs to Include Institutional Research Training in Data Science for Infectious and Immune Mediated Diseases. The NOSI aims to fund additional T32 training slots designed to support predoctoral trainees in the application of data science methods across infectious and immune-mediated diseases (IID) research.

Through such programs, trainees should become capable of applying data science methods and technologies across IID domains. The program must incorporate 1) interdisciplinary faculty mentorships of trainees and peer-to-peer trainee collaborations to conduct research that applies data science to IID research, and 2) data science coursework and an optional seminar series that are developed and instructed by faculty from departments of (or faculty with expertise in) computational and biomedical sciences.

The NOSI itself lays out examples of data science research and trainee mentorship activities as well as potential coursework topics. Take note that applications must include faculty mentorship and research opportunities from faculty beyond the role of course instructor.

Eligibility and Technical Requirements

Your current (parent) T32 award from NIAID must have at least 24 months of active grant support remaining at the time you apply for a competitive revision supplement through this NOSI. Also, the revision’s project period cannot extend beyond the project period of the parent award.

Your application must stipulate how many additional slots above the parent T32 award’s cap will be added for dedicated data science training, e.g., two or three additional data science training slots.

Application budgets are not limited but need to reflect the actual needs of the proposed project.

To apply, you will submit an application through the following notice of funding opportunity: Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) Institutional Research Training Grant (Parent T32). Also, you must include “NOT-AI-24-012” in the Agency Routing Identifier field (box 4B) of the SF 424 R&R application form.

The deadline to apply is September 25, 2024, for non-AIDS-related applications and January 7, 2025, for AIDS-related applications; for either date, submissions are due by 5 p.m. local time of the applicant organization.
