The NIAID Centralized Sequencing Program serves as an intramural clinical genomics resource for NIAID patients and partners across the NIH. The program is pursuing the bold vision of making genomics a standard part of clinical care, considering not just immune genes, but all genes for all participants, while simultaneously building a valuable data resource.
Main Areas of Focus
- Providing clinical genetic diagnostics for Mendelian disorders contributing to the patient’s clinical presentation, as well as additional genetic information that can change patient care.
- Sharing all raw genomic data files to referring investigators.
- Engaging in collaborative research and discovery efforts in select cases.
- Building the evidence base on the processes and outcomes of clinical genomics and genetic counseling services.
Eligibility and Intake
To be eligible for enrollment in the NIAID Centralized Sequencing Program, NIH patients must fulfill one of the following criteria:
- Have a disease under investigation by another NIH protocol and be enrolled in that protocol.
- Be a biological relative of a patient enrolled in an NIH protocol.
In select cases at the NIH, healthy volunteers may be enrolled as targeted internal controls.
The participant informed consent form describes the NIAID Centralized Sequencing Program research study. This consent form is designed to help patients decide if they would like to enroll. A study team member will talk with patients about the information described in this document as part of enrollment.
Using GRIS
Genomic data processed by the NIAID Centralized Sequencing Program is stored in GRIS—the Genomic Research Integration System. Using GRIS, you can browse, search, and record patient, pedigree, phenotypic, medical history, biospecimen, and genotype data, and perform candidate gene analysis.
To access GRIS, you will need your lab's principal investigator to send an email to the GRIS Support Team. The GRIS team will then be in touch with your login credentials.
