Biography

Dr. Nascimento has expertise in the fields of biochemistry, molecular biology, and chemistry, with a focus on vector biology and the energy metabolism of pathogen-vectoring arthropods. She has been studying the processes of embryogenesis and oogenesis, exploring the metabolic pathways that regulate cellular function and organismal physiology. Currently, at NIAID, she has been involved in the characterization of Ixodes scapularis embryogenesis and in identifying pathways and determining factors essential for complete embryo formation. This characterization will open new perspectives for studying the pathogen-tick relationship between the bacteria Borrelia miyamotoi and I. scapularis.
