Reimbursement for Peer Reviewers SOP

This standard operating procedure (SOP) includes the following sections: Purpose, Procedure, Contacts, and Links.

Purpose

To reimburse peer reviewers who participate in initial peer review meetings.

Procedure

NIH uses the Secure Payee Reimbursement System (SPRS) to electronically reimburse peer reviewers for honoraria and expenses from participating in peer review meetings.

Reviewers must register with SPRS through the eRA Commons and maintain current address and banking information in the system to ensure timely disbursements.

The guidelines discussed here are for reviewers with domestic bank accounts. Foreign nationals who live outside the United States and have no U.S. bank account should click "My permanent residence is outside the U.S. and I do not have a U.S. bank account" in SPRS.

Follow the steps below to receive your reimbursement. For more detailed information, go to Registration Instructions.

  • Log in to the eRA Commons using your Username and Password.
  • Update your personal information with the following:
    • Residential address
    • Phone number
    • Email
  • Link to SPRS and enter your
    • Social security number
    • Bank direct deposit routing number
    • Bank account number
