Every year, the Annual Fellows Workshop provides a forum for intramural NIAID fellows to come together from Maryland and Montana to network as well as share and discuss their research accomplishments. To facilitate this discussion, the NIAID Office of Research Training & Development will hold a poster session on Wednesday, December 11. The second day, Thursday, December 12, will feature three, 1-hour professional development sessions for NIAID predoctoral and postdoctoral fellows. Additional details on each professional development session can be found below. Biographies for each session presenter are available on the NIAID Fellows SharePoint.
- Strategic Grantsmanship: This session will focus on identifying the available resources and key elements to prepare a competitive biomedical grant application.
Presenter: David Armstrong, Ph.D., Grant Writing Mentors
- Make Citation Counts Count — Leverage Bibliometric Indicators for Your Professional Advancement: This session empowers authors to use bibliometric indicators to demonstrate productivity, impact, and collaboration. Such indicators are central to professional advancement and are often incorporated into evaluation, hiring, promotion, and tenure in scientific fields.
Presenters: Stacy Brody and Sarah Hoover, NIH Library
- Present Your Science: Talk Nerdy to Me: This session is atypical of most scientific presentations; it fosters an ‘assertion-evidence approach’, as a dramatically different way to present your scientific or technical work. Shift your presentation from reading a slide to one that is meaningful, engaging, and will inspire others
to act!
Presenter: Melissa Marshall, Founder, Present Your Science
Registration and Abstract Submission
NIAID predocs and postdocs are invited to submit abstracts for the poster session, which will be accepted through November 1, and register for the full, two-day, in-person event. All NIAID investigators, staff, and postbac fellows are encouraged to register to attend Day-1.
