Unsure How to Link Your ORCID iD and eRA Commons Account? Watch This Video
NIH developed a brief video tutorial to walk you through the process of accessing your personal profile and creating and connecting your ORCID iD, along with additional resources. The video should come in handy for investigators who, as of May 25, 2025, will be required to use Science Experts Network Curriculum Vitae (SciENcv) to complete Common Forms and the NIH Biographical Sketch Supplement to produce digitally certified PDFs for application submission. SciENcv requires investigators to not only enter their Open Researcher and Contributor Identification (ORCID) iD when preparing the Common Forms but also link their ORCID iD in their eRA Commons Profile.
New NIH Policy Ensures Patient Access to Certain Licensed Products
NIH issued the Intramural Research Program (IRP) Access Planning Policy to ensure patient access to NIH-owned inventions. Under this policy, organizations applying to NIH for certain commercial patent licenses related to the development of drugs, biologics, or devices must submit Access Plans that outline steps they intend to take to promote patient access to those licensed products.
The IRP Access Planning Policy will apply to license applications submitted to NIH on or after June 1, 2025.
NIH Implements New Funding Opportunity Goals Text
As of October 1, 2024, new notices of funding opportunities (NOFOs) contain a “Funding Opportunity Goals” section.
NIAID will use standardized language for the “Goals” section across all NOFOs; as an applicant, we recommend you pay more attention to a NOFO’s “Purpose” section, which is written specifically for the NOFO in which it appears.
The “Goals” section fulfills an HHS administrative requirement, as described in a December 4, 2024 Guide notice.
