Paylines are funding cutoff points for the grant application types listed below. Following the Financial Management Plan, NIAID funds most applications in order by percentile (R01 awards and fellowships) or overall impact score (all others). Each FY, NIAID sets initial paylines conservatively and sets final paylines later. We may fund beyond the paylines near the end of a FY. These paylines are for investigator-initiated applications reviewed for the September 2024, January 2025, and June 2025 Council meetings.

Note: As of FY 2025, the NIAID funding strategy includes paylines by activity code for most research training and career development funding opportunities. In addition, beginning in FY 2025, NIAID will use the percentile rank in the paylines for fellowship applications (e.g., F30, F31, F32).
