When you’re ready to publicize your scientific discoveries, let NIAID help spread the word. Through a variety of communication vehicles, our News and Science Writing Branch (NSWB) highlights the work of NIAID-funded researchers.
For example, NIAID frequently publishes News Releases to share research outcomes with a lay audience. Here are several recent examples:
- Screening Newborns for Deadly Immune Disease Saves Lives
- First-in-Human Trial of Oral Drug to Remove Radioactive Contamination Begins
- Clinical Trial of mRNA Universal Influenza Vaccine Candidate Begins
- NIH Researchers Uncover New Details on Rare Immune Disease
The news releases provide media an option to arrange for interviews with corresponding experts.
On the NIAID Now Blog, we share research findings from NIAID investigators and their collaborators. These posts vary widely in scope, length, and tone, but do tend to be a bit more informal than a standard press release. Read, for example:
- A Secret to Health and Long Life? Immune Resilience, NIAID Grantees Report
- Promising Advances for Antibody Treatment of Viruses that Cause Neurologic and Arthritic Diseases
- NIAID Study Describes Immune Response to Mpox in Woman Living with HIV
Additionally, through NIAID-Funded Research News, we amplify news releases about research findings from some of the institutions we support, such as those below.
- AI Helps Create Better, Simpler Hepatitis, COVID-19 Tests, May 8, 2023, University of Florida
- CRISPR and Single-Cell Sequencing Pinpoint Causal Genetic Variants for Traits and Diseases, May 4, 2023, New York University
- To Boost Cancer Immunotherapy's Fighting Power, Look to the Gut, May 3, 2023, Harvard Medical School

Steps to Take When Submitting a Paper
When you submit a research paper to a journal, be sure to share a copy with your institution’s press office, NSWB, and your NIAID program officer. Also let NIAID know when the journal accepts your paper. The more notice you can give about an upcoming publication, the better.
NSWB staff will read your paper and determine if and how NIAID can best publicize your work. NSWB may arrange social media promotion or issue a news release.
If your institution issues a news release about your work, send a link to NSWB so staff can add it to the list at NIAID-Funded Research News.
If you have any questions or news to share, contact NSWB at niaidnews@niaid.nih.gov or 301-402-1663.
