Objective: To facilitate the NIAID IRF-Frederick research program in accordance with the scientific strategic plan and scientific mission portfolio.
Description: The NIAID IRF-Frederick is a national resource available for collaborative studies on highly pathogenic viruses with partners from NIH, academia, industry, or other government organizations. The NIAID IRF provides the appropriate infrastructure to support basic research and animal studies with various infectious viral disease agents, including select agents and those requiring the highest level of biocontainment (biosafety level 4), and to evaluate therapeutics, vaccines, and diagnostics, as well as studies of the natural history and pathogenesis associated with these agents. The IRF-Frederick also provides laboratory and training support for NIAID Division of Clinical Research clinical research studies on high consequence viral pathogens in resource poor international settings. The purpose of this contract is to facilitate the continuation of scientific, animal care, imaging, and management/operations of this specialized biocontainment facility.
